Carbon Conscious
Lance Powell, AP Environmental Science Teacher at Menlo-Atherton High School, reports: “To offset my carbon footprint, each year I adopt acres of rainforest. Most recently they were in Costa Rica. These bio-diverse acres will be preserved and will continue to absorb carbon dioxide as well as provide habitat. They can be purchased for about $50.00/acre.”
Lance is climate conscious about living close to where he works, food choices, shopping locally, and conserving water and energy. Lance teaches students about climate change and other environmental issues to hopefully influence them to reduce their carbon footprint. He is also hosting an Action Climate Education (ACE) assembly at Menlo-Atherton. “Education is key.”
